About me
Creatures of our Universe
The universe is breathing. Our spirits are riding on a space shuttle. Everything is so beautiful. The starts are smiling in the sky. The moon is sleeping on the clouds. Our cells have the same atoms as the sparkling and twinkling stars. On the very Serene night, Listen to the tone of your pulse beating for your life. You will see that Sparkling and twinkling stars become one with the beat of your pulse. We all are unified one. In the universe as one divine music. To all the creatures of the universe. Whose love of music is at home, in our spiritual realm. so as the universe is breathingBy Eiko Maruyama

My story of the creation of iDream museum:
In the de Waag exhibition center, my paintings and sculptures are on display. In addition to that, I created an animation of those pieces which will be continuously running accompanied by my own musical composition.
Finally my dream has come true by being able to do a solo exhibition of Eiko Maruyama's iDream museum.
The city Haarlem is the birthplace of Frans Hals whom I adore. As he did not wish to make ordinary portraits, I would not have liked to create an ordinary site. Frans Hals's works make me smile. I did not want to make the viewers bored with my art work by creating an ordinary site which you can find everywhere.
Because of my museum background (internships/jobs held at Smithsonian Institution, National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., Rijksmuseum of Amsterdam) together with art history and studio art studies that I took, I thought to create my iDream museum where I would be able to place my own art work. Besides, I love animation and have grown up with animation since a very early stage of my life in Japan. I have a big passion for animation. Therefore, I have analyzed culture through animation in terms of using the tool of cross cultural analysis.
This time, I created my iDream museum based on my passion in a different fashion from the frequently seen site.
In the cross media point of view, the organization 'KZOD' found my idea very unique. As such, I was lucky enough to have a solo exhibition as soon as I was accepted to become a member of this art organization here in Haarlem.
After I obtained a MA degree at George Washington University(Studied arts at the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences of the George Washington University and Graduate school of Museum Education ), I wished to study art here in The Netherlands as well. My good friend who studied at the Rietveld academy together with me, strongly recommended that I contact KZOD last year November to inquire about becoming a member.
I suddenly got an inspiration to start painting again after long period of not doing so. Last summer my first painting received the 3rd prize among 50 international artists--> I was also recommended by my good friend to turn in my painting to the selection.

I love writing poetry. A poem is the only window between the verbal and the visual world. I remember once upon a time when I met a poet in Athens, Greece. He said; `If one person believes in your talent strongly, your dream will come true.`
I have `Friends` who helped make my dream come true. Thank you to everyone who has supported me to let my dream come true.

Awards art exhibition at ROC
Dear Ms. Mensink,I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for letting me attend your wonderful ID Conference held in Amsterdam.
I enjoyed its profound spiritual atmosphere which was created by you together with many fantastic people coming from all over the world. You organized an incredible conference in order for us to have an unforgettable memory which was built by a concert, lectures, exhibition, parties and so on.
Especially, I am grateful to you that you made my dream come true. When I saw you on Friday at ROC, you kindly informed me with a full of smile on your face that I won the prize. You made my day, month, year and life.
I gained the 3rd prize (out of 60 International artists) from the public jury at the art exhibition. This was truly a dream to me. I have been crying for happiness in my mind ever since that amazing moment on.
Moreover I would like to thank you for giving me such an exclusive present "The resurrection" of Kees Verkade. I hang it in my living room next to my Baroque instrument (small harpsichord--> Spinet of 18century Russell collection's copy).
I hope there will ever be some chance to meet you again,
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Eiko Maruyama

Free free spirit:
It was a cold winter in the dreamland.
When standing in front of the night seashore, the waves made a sweet melody.
Far in front of my view, in the distance I saw the icy mountain.
The entire sky was filled with sparkling and twinkling stars.
Suddenly comets flew down into the sea.
I felt as if I were the bear viewing the beautiful galaxy together with my friend Rabbit.
